Beastie Boys - Gratitude. Management had struggled to find a window in the touring schedule to shoot the Gratitude clip, so was looking for a concept that could be quickly shot. Kiwi director Kerry Brown, came up with the idea to shoot a performance clip in a geothermal area of New Zealand, promising to occupy the band for only half a day. Management said yes. They came off an Auckland stage around midnight. There were no flights, so we had them driven to Rotorua while they slept. Geothermal areas are culturally and geographically sensitive locations, so as they were being driven through the night and under clouds of sulphur, we hand carried a very reduced kit in, ready for as soon as they arrived and it was light. They delivered energetic take after take, barely pausing and with much, much humour. We had them back in Auckland to make their flight out that same afternoon.
